Doh!

I cried with laughter more than once.

I was reasonably confident Hammond was gonna drown.

What on earth were they doing going through Newcastle to get from the M6 to Rudyard? When May got to that low bridge was impressive as well as he must have totally buggered up to get from where he theoretically left the others. They should have come off the M6 stayed on the A500, along to the A50 made a right, up to the A520 then headed across to Leek that way (through the nice little section of road with 5 speed cameras in half a mile). They must have covered about 4-5 times the distance they needed to.

But it wouldn't have been as funny if he had now would it!!!

What - with the dozen frogmen in rubber dinghies just behind camera?

Absolutely first class. Lots of pointless cocking about and two fingers up to the viewer who complained about the lack of affordable cars.

I liked most of it, except the bit where they effectively trashed what looked like a perfectly good £13k worth of outboard.

I doubt it was trashed; I certainly would hope a 13K outboard could handle a quick dip.

It would probably have been OK. It's just a shame Clarkson couldn't get to fit two of them.

I could be wrong about the trashing but I know that running them underwater really isn't good for them, nor is turning them upside down.

Incidentally, the outboard featured is a 4 stroke SOHC 3.5l VTEC V6 which weighs more than quarter of a tonne. I'm mildly impressed they managed to make that HiLux float at all.

I don't know Leek is quite a conservative little old town and the site of the Damper van going through it would have been highly entertaining.

Honda would of written it off as an advertising expense.

Cheap advert for Honda, I doubt the engine was trashed.

Clarkson once again showed he should not be allowed anywhere near a toolkit !

I would hope that if I paid £13k for an outboard motor that it would be fairly idiot proof - i.e. it would cut out if inverted and it would survive being submerged.

I wonder what the effect of 600lbs of outboard had on the handling of the Toyota?!? Probably had a bit of weight up the front for compensation?

Did you not notice how many times the Honda logo was shown, and Steve Curtis who's people looked to have built the Toyboata is their man.

Remember the Hilux is designed to take those sorts of weights and if the shocks had been uprated (or locked) it would not have presented much of a problem.

This series, though, has kind of steered clear of the 'this is a car, this is what it does, it's great' routine into more of a 'how can we relate this random piece of messing about to cars?'. Last night was hilarious, particularly given that Hammond 'forgot' about sealing his Damper Van.

And given that they were shown coming out of Knutsford services on the M6, what way, exactly, did they go to Leek?!!
