"Volkswagen Passat".

Yeah, but to be fair, they made a big hoo-har about the engine and wheels and bodykit and such, but didn't once discuss the dashboard material. You can't really trust the word of amateurs like that.

Yup, that's the one they were talking about.

296bhp, 155mph (limited) and 0-60 in 5.6 secs. That's a quick car for quite a reasonable amount of money.

Still a Passat though, it'll be quite quick but dull.

A 300 bhp, 4wd, recaro seated Passat is still a deeply boring car.

It'll be boring to drive, boring to listen to, boring to sit in and not worth crossing the road to look at. It'll handle competantly but with zero involvement for the driver and it'll only be driven by reps.

I very much doubt VW will sell a new one to a private buyer in the first 12 months. They'll all belong to companies, and the rep droid driving it will spend all day wishing he'd got something else and complaining about the CO2 tax.

I can think of a lot of ways I'd rather go spend £28k heh.

Won't it have a "s**te 4wd system" as well?

Only if you want something smaller, slower and with an interior like the inside of Dixons.

Currys Digital World, surely...

i was gonna say i'd rather have a focus ST but i think i'd have the passat first! rather have a VW badge than a blue oval!

You've told me about your uni days...

That'll explain the taste in cars then.

A car is either something you like, or you don't.

Dismissing simply because it has what you consider to be the wrong badge on the front is the act of an arse.

Slower is like, a lie - and this is without including the way the Evo would disappear in the bends...

That's the £28k FQ-300.

An Evo is hardly going to be slower than a fat arsed Volkswagen, given that even the basic ones have 276 ponies and usually crack 60 in five and a half or less.

Not to mention it will have far better handling and a real 4x4 running gear, not some p00fy Haldex system that - even if you do manage to get it to engage rear traction - will only send about 30% there.

It will, however, most definitely be snaller and have a s**te interior though, that's a given.

About the same, then, given that we don't know any official info. on the Passat yet.

It's still a lot smaller and has an interior like a branch of Currys.digital, though.

I wouldn't have an Evo or current Impreza if you paid me.

That makes absolutely no sense if you're dismissing it *because* you don't like the badge...

For a lot of people, cars *are* about image, a car can be great yet give off the wrong image (old Audi TT) so be completely unsuitable. The "badge" is an integral part of the package and has a great deal of bearing on the decision.

Which is sort of like "smaller", but slightly different (it's a weirder shape).
