UK.rec.car.audio is a bit dead so...

...I know most people in here have, or have dabbled in ICE at some point. Wheres the best place online to get the kind of connectors so my steering column controls and display still work when i change to an aftermarket head unit?

And, whats good for £200 in MP3 headunits? I like Pioneer for no other reason than my last 2 head units have been Pioneer and performed well and never broke. I like the DEH-77MP - good choice? I don't think it will really 'fit' with my dash tho....

Also, if i can save some cash on the headunit (bit poor, no more student loan this year for me :'( ) i'd like a small sub/amp. However, there is a catch in that the 206's boot is quite frankly laughable (compared to the

405) and i'd kinda like to be able to fit in 2 weeks worth of clothes and possessions for when i am in hospital, and also, a wheelchair. These things fit at the mo, but don't leave much space - but i'm open to suggestions/links for small subs :)

Cheers for your help dudes :D

Thats probly a bit big.

Again, i am lookin at them over and over, 'cos they're much better for my, frankly laughable finances, but they're gonna take up too much room i bet :'(

I feel so honoured :)

Why don't you buy Vamp's one, sounds like he could do with the cash right now.

Remember Aldi are selling MP3 car stereos for £50. While you're there, sample their mozzarella pizzas (99p each) they taste far better than posh ones from mainstream supermarkets, at a quarter of the price. Although Lidl ones are better (pack of 2 for £1.99).

And it isn't chav or pikey to shop there, it's shrewd (unless you are already a chav or pikey, in which case everything you do is chav or pikey).

Maybe Pug are now doing an MP3 player you can buy from the dealer and will work with the dash display and the steering column controls, plus not make the dash look weird? I think a glovebox or boot mounted hard drive based MP3 jukebox would be the ultimate replacement for a changer - has anyone made one of those yet?

I am so on that right now ;)

It doesn't do WMA's or i would be seriously tempted, thing is, a lot of my tunes on my PC are WMA's that i've got from other people who were too un-enlightened to rip to MP3 and converting them would take a really long time :)

I don't really care what people think of me, especially if i'm getting a bargain :)

I beleive the top spec 407's, which are the only things likely to have such a device, are double din sized huge mofoin things. Also, dealer prices for head unit? Behave :) They have them in there in a little display case, the ones you can 'upgrade' to......they're not as good as the Aldi special, but they are £300. I only use the dealer because it free under the lease scheme thing :) (probly shouldn't mention i'm planning on changing their headunit ;) I best hang onto the standard one....) Their labour is £70 an hour ffs! I could not *quite* afford that :)

Ooh, I'm up for trying some of them. I've always avoided the really cheap pizzas on the grounds that you do get what you pay for (Sainsbro's taste the difference mozzarella and sunblush tomato pizzas are mmmmmmmmmmmmm.....lovely, whereas I've found a lot of the cheaper pizzas are just a bit crap), but I'll give 'em a try one day.

Ebay! I got my 6-disc in-dash changer (Ford 6006E) for the Fiesta for £160 (IIRC). Ok, so not bargain basement cheap, but the going rate, and still about a third of the dealer price for a new one.

DanTXD wrote of tales of changing the stereo in his jazzy new 206 which Douglas Payne duly snipped and replied thus:

I remember when the 307 and the first multiplexed 206s came out there was talk of it being difficult to make aftermarket ICE work at all without some electrical butchery due to the stereo being an integral part of the electronic jiggery pokery that powers the car.

I might not be recalling correctly however.

Worth a quick investamigation however yesno?

Autoleads list a Sony to Stalk adaptor for it so can i assume its going to work? Although that means i have to get a Sony if i want my stalk controls, and i've never been too impressed with them to be honest...

Yes, it's called an iPod.

That is the case, and ditto the 407 - Pug like their multiplexing.

Various adaptors are readily available though, so I don't think it's too much hassle to get around ?

I've got them in the Master (standard I think), and they're a godsend. Really really good. That's my view.
