However, it was a semi-serious answer, too. I've seen plenty of people doing similar speeds and getting away with it, including myself (complacency will lose me my licence, of course, but I am less twitchy when I see a traffic car than I used to be, and don't automatically go for the brakes despite habitually trying to convince myself that Edinburgh really is only an hour away).

Flash car, silly speed, young lad = more than a slap on the wrists.

That must have been the "new" A130, the old road woulndn't have been quite so suitable for high speeds.

PS Not yet established if my humble Ford will reach the 137 mph claimed ny the manufacturer, I'll have to wait for a trip to Germany.

Some people do just that! Whilst running a V70 last year, if I set the cruise control for 70 mph on the southern half of the M25, (in the appropiate lane, of course), I'd rapidly aquire a queue of law-abiding motorists to my rear. Perhaps they thought that the Kent &/or Surrey forces were running some "plane-jane" traffic cars?

Where motorway speeds are enforced by the Traffic Police, rather than cameras, an indicated 80 mph seems to be acceptable, & is probably within the "unoffical" tolerance level.

I suspect that much more than 80 mph could be expensive....

I still feel that the one's choice of vehicle can affect the outcome of any "conversation" with said traffic police, as, of course, would one's attitude during the conversation.

( One remembers a chat with a Met. PC, who was driving a Triumph 2.5 Pi Jam Sandwich, regarding scooting through a red traffic light on the A12 in Ilford, to which I admitted my guilt & his subsequent decision to ignore the speed at which I was driving on a 40 mph road...... Long, long, ago.)
