One would assume you've not done a lot of research into buying bike engines, then. At least not ones from modern kit, anyway.

If you think that you can do it for an all-in cost of £10k, then you're even more stupid than I originally thought.

Even if you do manage it, you'll have a power / weight ratio of less than half that of my VFR, so I'll be at the 2nd bend before you've lined yourself up for the first.

But you'd be looking at the thick end of £3k for twin 9R engines complete with carbs etc. in a ready to run state.

Try ringing Cheshire Motorcycle Salvage they have two ZX9R engines the E2 producing 140bhp and the C2 producing 130bhp the E2 has 8000 on the clock and costs £1000 the C2 - 500 miles at £900. Where you get £3k from I don't know. EBay and such can produce even greater deals like below 10k mile engine for around £500-800. My mate got a ZX9R with 900 miles for £1200 over a year ago.

I could stick a 1000bhp of NOS on with the extra grand, :)

If you think you can do it for that, then go ahead.

But I _know_ you won't be able to. The costs soon mount up when you embark on a project like this. It's possible to build one using a s***ty old Ford OHC motor and 'box for a couple of grand, but the bike engines make things expensive - especially as you're going to have to uprate most of the braking and suspension components from the standard donor bits if it's going to be a safe build. Not to mention the fact you're going to need a pretty special propshaft and diff.

Anyone who reckons they've built a twin bike-engined one for £10k either needs a new calculator, or has cut corners to such an extent that the vehicle is unroadworthy.

You'd better get building, then.

Bwahahaha! You've never been to Cheshire Motorcycle Shitesters, have you? For that money, from them, you're going to get something that's totally shagged. Trust me, I've been there, and I know people who've been burned buying stuff from 'em, too.

When you say a 9R for £1200, are you saying he got the whole bike for that or just the motor? - either way, it had significantly more than 900 miles on it. Even 9000 miles would be unlikely for that price.

Once again, you're just showing that you know too little to embark on a project of such a scale.

Just as an aside..... most engines you see advertised are bare engines, so you need to add several hundred quid for those little details like carbs and ignition boxes.

I bought on my 18-th birthday a fast street bike (Honda CBR). I had anticipated a stir at home but strangely my parents did not argue.

Next day however my father drove me to a Brussels hospital specialising in fixing up crashed bikers. It made quite an impression because once the those people knew why I was there, I was showed a reality seldom published in fancy motorsport-magazines.

The bike stayed a bit, I didn't ride it anymore and after a forthnight I gave it virtually away. Bad investment I guess but may be not.
