What should I buy?

Whatever I buy, I'll do most, if not all of the work on it myself. As it is not *needed*, it doesn't matter that much if it breaks as long as parts are easily available

In the UK the Rover V8 is pretty popular in 'em. In Merkinland they seem to put either Lexus or Mustang V8s in.

I had thought about an MX-5/Eunos. Not too sure about the early ones that I could afford though. Most seem to be imports.

According to the nutters in California that put Ford V8s in them, not really. The engine is quite far back anyway, plus it's not that much heavier than the original lump.

... and there's nothing wrong with that. They're the same car, but with slightly higher spec extras-wise and usually in better condition as they don't chuck salt on the roads in Japan if the temperature goes below

There's LHD kits available for the Ford 5.0L

And imports tend to get a glass rear screen as an option instead of all uk models having a vinyl screen.

I'm not sure thats true, prolly depends on the age. Many £3k ones will have had at least 1 new roof by now, import or not, by my reckoning so it depends on the skinflintedness of previous owners.

Some types of glass screened hood require the glass to be unzipped before you can lower the roof. Mine is a UK car, has a glass screen and no zip, but it wasn't £3k.
