Wheel refurbishment in NE Scotland?

Anyone know anywhere that can refurbish wheels in NE Scotland, struggling to find anyone within 120 miles.

Not that I know of anywhere but 120 miles of where in the NE? There's a few accident repair centres in and around Aberdeen and there's bound to be someone with a shotblaster and some laquer in a shed on an industrial estate near you.

Near Aberdeen, I'd rather have it done right and have the rim machined and polished to give a good finish rather than someone with a shotblaster and some laquer in their shed.

Machined and polished? Isn't that taking it a bit far unless they're heavily buggered? FWIW we had some shotblasted and I think powder coated, and they're standing up very well.

The rims have been kerbed a bit, if I'm going to the trouble of having them done I may as well get it done properly and make them perfect. No point having them done if they still look kerbed once they're finished.

Most of your local bodyshops will do it, if you ask.

It's not a specialised job at all. They simply fill the dints in the wheel, and then respray it.

They won't look kerbed once they're finished - that's the whole point of getting em refurbed !!!

Anyone with access to a spraygun, can refurb your alloys. Phone your local backstreet bodyshops.

For a start, you need special primer. Unless someone specialises in them, the cost of mixing the paint and setting up the spray gun etc is likely to be as much as the job. If they're doing a batch, the unit cost comes down. Older cars may need their wheels refurbished because the tyre/rim seal is leaking - so it's not just a case of making them look pretty.

I'm specifically talking about "making them look pretty" - it's a trivial job.

Obviously if they need structural repairs, then it's a different ballgame.

But you said 'refurbishing'. If you said tart up, I'd have kept quiet. For once.;-)

BTW, anyone got a recommendation for a proper job on SDI Vitesse alloys - somewhere handy to SW London? I've bought a set off Ebay, and I've got two losing pressure at the moment which is driving me nuts.

The bloke who did ours specilised in repairing wheels and aluminium parts. They were pretty corroded and came back looking spot on.

Problem is the rims are polished and kerbed, body filler or whatever they use won't polish up too well :-) The rim really needs machining to take it down to new metal or the kerbing marks filled with weld and machined down.

I know a place which can do them mail order, in Liverpool. TBH, it seemed cheaper to just buy a new set, given the cost of carriage both ways, but you need the right offsets and stuff and may *well* prefer the 'tess styling, something that has never troubled me so long as they are decently rigid.

Have a google for Weldspek. He's nowhere near Scotland, but he did some alloys for us, and his workshop is full of expensive looking wheels / alloy bike engines etc. that he welds up and fixes. Email him and see if he knows of anyone up your way...
