'65 Mustang Interval Wiper Install

I have a '65 Mustang coupe with two-speed windshield wipers. Tried adding an interval wiper device over the weekend without success. The device I'm trying to install is a basic black box design with a knob to delay from 2 to

20 seconds and off.

I spliced into the low speed wire from the stock wiper control knob. The device does pause the wiper for the set time frame, but at whatever the location happens to be, i.e. in the middle of the wipe rather than returning to 'park.' I tried to find a 'park' signal cable as the device I'm trying to use has a lead for it, but without success.

Fortunately, I only cut one wire to try this and was able to reinstall everything with little disruption sans the wiper delay device.

Has anyone been able to successfully install a device like this? Is it even possible? I understand some systems simply will not work with a device like this.

FWIW, I was going to mount the box under and behind the dash so as not to be visible from the inside the car. Adjustments(which I figured to be minimal) would be affected by reaching just under the dash and turning the knob.

Thanks in advance, Nels

Thanks for the tip! Have you or do you know of anyone who has gone this route? I'm wondering how it integrates with the stock wiper control knob. I'm looking for a completely stock looking installation.

I'm also wondering what is different about this product that allows it pull this off. Seems a little pricey to me but if there is no other way...

I haven't done it, but I'm considering it. Send MustangSteve an Email about it snipped-for-privacy@verizon.net or just post the question in his forum

. He usually answers within acouple hours to the forum and prefers tech questions be asked there. Heknows his stuff from what I can tell, and his website is really informative.http://www.mustangsteve.com Check it out. He's got lots of "restomod" stuff like a combination kit that gives you an adjustable cable clutch and power brakes with a double MC, new brake and clutch pedals with the plastic in the hinges removed and a ball bearing setup in its place. Never oval out your pedals supports again. And it all fits in the 65-66 without banging into the shock tower, COOL!

I talked with MS about it.... the difference between his and others ala jc whitney, is his returns wipers to start position when you power off where others, because they operate by interupting power (on-offon-off-on-off to creat intermittant) so if you power off they just stop. There is still an additional control knob to adjust timing (if you have 2 spd system you can locate timing adjustment out of sight (like in glove box).

I, too, am very interested. I have been searching high and low for this mod.

If you know anything about Mustangs Plus and what the owner and employees have done with Mustangs, you know they are into mods as well as restore. I had already contacted them because I wanted a system which maintains the original look and functionality of the dash controls (no jcw add-on ugly boxes), and I got an email yesterday that this mod is of high interest and something they would like to do. So, you also may see it there in the future.

As for price.. remember that this is an introductory price. I saw a listing for just an intermittent wiper switch at $159.00. The convenience of this mod to me is well worth the price. I hate having to turn the switch on then off then on then off just because it isn't raining enough to leave on full time, but too much not to use them at all.

Thanks for the feedback. Admittedly, I did get a $30 ugly black box from J.C. Whitney, however I believe I hide either behind and under the dash out of sight or as you suggested with the control knob, in the glove box.

Is MS solution the only one that will allow interval wipers? I wish I knew exactly how the heck this device was doing it. How it is different from the typical power interruption device or just what I'm doing wrong in my wiring.

Oh well, push comes to shove, $90 is well worth not having to reach for the knob when it mists or during light rain.

If MS can come up with a way, then it must not be the only way... I'm thinking there must be a way to scavenge parts from a luxury car (Ford/Merc) from late 60s/early 70s. Meanwhile you have the jc whitney ugly box, the MS advertised here, and hopefully, Mustangs Plus (M+) or someone similar will come up with something. M+'s owner and employees are really BIG on restomods.... check their site at

where you will find some examples (convertible hardtop for mustang coupes, 2 seat mustang roadster, etc.

And I am still contacting people at custom shops, etc.
