'72 or '73 Mustang, How can I know for sure?

How can I know for certain that my mustang is a '72 or '73. I see pictures of other '73's and other 72's, but have never seen one exactly the same. I know that sounds crazy, but they are all a little different, the hoods, or the grille, etc. How can I know for sure? I do know that there is a date stamped in the brake pedal that is 10 XX 1972. Would this mean it is a 72 or 73 model?

Thanks for the help.

Okay, that was one of the main differences I had noticed. But I've never seen another 73 with the wheel covers that mine has. I have the two piece, silver ring with center piece that has the running hourse and mustang stamped in it. I really want to keep my car as original as possible, but these might have to go with this new restoration I"m trying to do. I've always wanted and liked the look of the Mustangs with Mag rims!

Brian -

I had the the wheel covers you were speaking of on my 73 vert. Wasn't a big fan though. I went for the Cragar SS's:

If you need a reference ;-) Your tires are, like 195s or something right now, right? Yeah, that's no good...I've got 265s back and 235s front and they look a helluvalot meaner! Made all the difference...

Easiest way is to check the bumper. The 73 uses the new 5mph bumper and it sticks out several inches more than the 71 or 72 (189.5" vs 194" inches). Also, the 73 Mustangs front parking lights are now at the ends of the grill and are now vertical.

The rear bumper on a '73 sticks out a bit further than the '72 also but it is still a chrome bumper. StuK
