I had some of the old 40-series a few years back and hated them. They nearly rattled the fillings loose in my teeth with their hellish resonance inside the car. The new Delta Flow design seems to resolve a lot of that. It's really quiet inside the car at highway speeds but has a nice roar outside.

Yeah... had a nightmare of a time with them too. Had bought a pair off of Corral in 2002 and apparently the previous owner had tried his hand at porting and polishing them himself. I knew diddly about the way the intake / exhaust ports were supposed to look so I didn't think much about it. He basically ruined them.

After we pulled them and put the 98 heads back on, the local Mustang performance shop here looked at the '01 heads and just sort of winced. I ended up selling them for a fourth of what I had in them.

A 32v engine would be great and is definitely an option for me. I'm just going to wait and see what the finances look like at the end of the year and go from there. This car is almost 100% paid for so 2005 will be the year of "fun shit".

replace the power valve, if it's blown or leaking you'll get the conditions you mentioned, rich idle, etc.

I'll second (or third) the ram air kit. I bought mine from mustangs unlimited for $119 I think. I have an 87 GT vert and when I screwed that scoop into the underside of the ground effects I was hitting everything with it because it hung so low. I never noticed any performance difference and one day it just fell off and I didn't care. The replacement airbox that it came with is still in there with the K&N as well as the large hose that stretches down that used to connect to the scoop. Now I pretend its a cold air kit.

None of my other mods were as worthless as the ram air. I did buy a Tri-ax shifter for my brandy new Tremec 3550 and I love the shifter compared to the "short throw" that came with the tranny. The tri-ax is much crisper and shorter than the Tremec one. And as for noise...its a convertible so its loud as hell anyway. I have 1 5/8" Mac shorty headers, stock H-pipe and Mac cat-back exhaust. I love the sound, not too quiet, not too loud, but loud enough that everyone hears it and looks and I don't notice the shifter noise.

there is a guy on the 3.8mustang.com board that makes these gaskets for the shifter. Everyone says it took away 99% of the whinning noise....you might want to pick one up..they are 12 shipped..I bought one but I dont get to install mine till tomorrow. You might want to remove the stops on your tri ax shifter because Tremec says since their transmissions have internal stops these other stops are not needed. They advise to take them out.
