If you look, you will see three tangs on the outside of the hole the sending unit fits into. You will also see a ring with three slots to match the three tangs. Place a punch into one of the slots, and tap on it to move the ring counterclockwise until the slots match the tangs. The ring will now come out, and so will the sending unit. The unit may be stuck to the gasket and require prying.

It goes without saying that the fuel level should be below the level of the hole.
