Things changed for Harley hugely when they ceased being bikes for ragtags and became status symbols for bored dentists.
I didn't know Japanese or Italian bikes were produced in Asian sweatshops? I guess the they've moved production? A Harley maintenance free? I thought that was a contradiction in terms? Harley must have changed radically in the last decade or so.
But I do like watching those bike shows where they're constructing a custom Harley-based chopper and they get a part that doesn't quite fit. So they yank out a hammer and proceed to bash it into place. Wince. $80k-$150k? No thanks.

Like it or not, it's that group who are keeping the oddball Harley company alive.
One set of neurotics doesn't change the universal fact Harleys are (IMO) crude, powerless and pointlessly noisy. I object to being pulled over by police for having noisy mufflers in my car when Harleys are 5x louder and get a free pass.
Harley's are not a symbol of power to anyone who understands what real motorcycle power is. A 180 HP is real bike horsepower. Maybe because they look like the neck jewellery worm by rap stars they exude a false image of power?
And I've been teased constantly for driving V8 Mustangs all winter over the past 17 years.
I do alot of photography and see what you've seen. I've even seen deer at Hwy 7 and Bayview in Toronto (the wildlife is encroaching on the city) but my home theater is sound-shielded from the outside.
Now whose being the elitist?
Clever saying.

Well... what you see on these shows (shows built for yuppies that watch them... yuppies like Rich, apparently...), is a non-Harley frame fitted with a RevTech or S&S motor (hmmm, must have missed the Harley reference, somehwere). Harley? Hardly.... These shows are designed to draw the masses (the Rich's of the world) and have little to offer riders - other than the odd "pretty face"... High rake angles and extended forks make handling difficult. Most of these bikes would probably be unpleasant to ride for any distance and be an absolute handful at low speeds. But who cares? Non-riders will always pass judgement... and usually like a bike for what it looks like rather than how it handles.
While the Haley Evo engine lacks some of the character of the knucklehead and the panhead, it features reduced vibration and zip for oil leaks. Attention to detail abounds... My XLH has 4 camshafts in order to make the pushtubes "pretty"... This is something that didn't really matter to me, but now that I have it, it looks good. Of course, your choice of cars is "practical" and shows no desire to be ostentatious... I sorry...
Now... it is apparent that you read about every 14th word... Last I saw, Japan was an Asian country and they do treat their workers much different from the way we are treated in our daily lives. I don't recall saying Italian bikes were built in Asia but I do recall mentioning that mechanical things built in Italy are notoriously high maintenance.
Aside from your knee-jerk reactions to rising gasoline costs, cell phone use and sundry other complaints in your life, I can only suggest you spend more money on drugs.... the cheap s*it is f*cking you up too much.

Ahhh, yes.. the "sportbikes".... those high horsepower machines that have a habit of smearing inexperienced riders over several acres of pavement.... Why is it always about horsepower? "My dick is smaller than yours but look at the specs on my car....". You choose your ride... I choose mine.... I've loved my Mustangs... but they are, in the basic form, just another car. I came to this group when I had a (missed) opportunity to purchase a solid 66 rolling chassis. I'd love to have a '69 Mach... I'd really love to have never parted with my 64.5 convertible.... Now that my son has been given my second truck, I'm thinking there may be another Mustang in my future....
Lessee... I don't want to miss anything with my downsized, Harley brain... I mention that being on a bike is a "feeling" and you call me elitist.... yet you make much of driving V8 Mustangs..... even in the winter.. WTF is that? "Even in the winter".... This is special???
You've seen deer.... encroaching on urban areas.... WOW!!! I see urban areas encroaching on wildlife habitat... what a difference we have in outlook.
You take photographs... what - gas station pricing? Cell phone users? Yep, cheap shot.... but taking photographs is what a lot of us do... some are great... most aren't worth the pixels. Taking photgraphs appears to make you an expert in wildlife encroaching on urban habitat. You haven't (as far as I can see) experienced the sheer joy of no sound at all. You haven't experienced the sound of field mice rustling through tall grass... the smell of but air. Come visit... I can show you nature at it's finest.... On a bike, of course.

No, not at all. A 340CI Nissan 4 door or King cab *IS* more powerful and faster than the equivilant hemi powered Dodge. Read the reviews, take a trip to a race track some time, try a Google search. Ignoring a fact does not make it false, I think even Hanky knows that. Send an email to Stillen and ask them for the dyno numbers on the stock Titans they tested. You're not fooling anyone but yourself.

Like I said.. still dreaming.
Ram 5.7: 345/375 Titan 5.6: 305/379
The Titan may have a bit more grunt at the low end, but the Ram will run away from it at higher speeds.
I think it's interesting that Nissan ignores the 5.7 on the 'comparison' page of their web site when the Titan is compared to the Ram. I wonder why that is...

Jim, have been a motorcyclist since '66, and know only too well what it"s like to ride w/o earplugs at freeway speeds sans helmet or w/ beanie or 1/2 helmet.

The deer must bolt 10 miles away when you bike is running. Or, maybe they think the Harley sound is a bull moose in heat? I would.

I just remembered the one thing I like about Harleys. They are the only bike I can outrun with my Mustang.

Ummm....even my ancient ol' shovelhead could outrun a Mustang. Is there some reason why you're trying to make an ass out of yourself? Or are you just antisocial?
People that buy crotch rockets have a different set of priorities from folks that buy a cruising bike. And no, I don't appreciate the guys running around with open pipes either (whether on a Harley or a Ducati).

At "freeway speeds", even way back when , I did wear protection... A grasshopper in the forehead at 60 mph is not my idea of a treat...However, I currently run a windshield on the highway (seems to me I said this once) and my half-helmet sans ear protection works great. Additionally, the windshield reduces fatigue on long jaunts.

Well said... mine still has the factory mufflers and will likely stay that way. Apparently, I left "snort pipes" behind with my youth.... along with the need for my vehicle of choice to replace my natural "whatever it is".
As far as Rich's penis replacement outrunning my bike.... I didn't know we had a race going on or something to prove.... Rich might, I don't. Unlike Rich and his addiction to cell phone usage, gas prices, insurance prices and God knows what else, I am quite comfortable in my current situation.... (if you can call 32+ years with the same wonderful woman a "current" situation). Rich, OTOH, seems to find great amounts of stress in his daily encounters....
I don't think he's an asshole.... but he's doing a pretty good job of imitating one...

Who the hell would "look down" at you for not wearing Harley duds? Certainly not a "real" Harley rider. Yeah there are certain guys that collect T-Shirts from every Harley dealer they ride by and I happen to be one of them, but the rest of the s*it is just over-priced poser trash anyway's. I bet the guys that look down on ya have creases in their chaps.
Well it was wrenched together in North America, but several parts come from manufacturers around the world, to include Japan. Sad, but true in this global economy.
What about a kidney buster?

First & foremost almost all of the "bikes" built on the bike shows don't have a single Harley part on them. Most of the engines are from S&S, the frames custom made along with most of the sheet metal. Might be a doo-dad here or there that came from Harley, but as I said almost none of them on the shows even started out their lives as Harleys.
