And apparently new to cars all together. That's an insane idea. Sell the V6 and buy a GT.

I have to agree with the rest of them. It's not just the engine and tranny you have to worry about... it's EVERYTHING

Wiring, electrical, brackets, suspension, the clutch, emissions, computer, exhaust and the list goes on and on.

It's WAY too much unless you are loaded, then just swap it for a GT or a Cobra. Seriously.

This is a 2003 model, not a 1969 model. Forget about trying to do major swaps like that. Sell your V6 car and just buy a V8 GT if that's what you want. It will be cheaper and way less painful in the long run... and you will actually wind up with a running car as opposed to a nightmare that will sit in the garage forever until you sell it for pennies out of frustration and disgust. Gone are the good old days of simple engine and tranny swaps.

Well, you don't just throw the V8 in. You need the electrical system, the drive train, and some of the chassis parts to get it done. It's a lot of work so you either need time and all the tools or the money to pay someone else to do it. This swap has been done a lot and most folks typically buy a donor GT and move parts over. This is usually much cheaper than trying to gather all the parts separately, if you can find the right donor.

If you've got the donor car already (or can get it dirt cheap), and you have the tools, and you do all the work yourself, you can make it happen for less money than buying a new GT. However, it won't be that much cheaper so, imho, it's just not worth it unless you simply have to keep the V6 body for some reason. It will be, in the long run, far, far simpler, and if you don't have the donor already, it will be cheaper, to just sell the V6 and buy a GT and work on it.

Yeah, there's a weight difference but the V8 produces so much more power that it's negligable.

I'm with Al and Jim: trade it in for a GT. The 6-cyl. coupes are not performance vehicles, and never will be. In order to do a V-8 swap, you'd have to gut the whole thing. Engine, transmission, rear end, suspension, cooling system, computer, tires/wheels --everything but the chassis and body would have to go.
