If I use the Tri-Ax on the T-5 I drop into my '66 can I use a different handle? I'd want to use one that looks stock, but with the benefits of the better shifter base. Would this be a waste of time?

Yup... this can be done. I think the new Summit catalog has an old GT with a Tri-Ax and a stock-looking shifter handle. You could have one made special or there might be a company who makes them. A stock T-5 shifter handle will fit the Tri-Ax, so if you have a source for a stock-looking shifter handle for a T-5, then it will fit the Tri-Ax as well.

Just for clarification, if in fact the catalog does have this, it's just a show car, and not representative of anything that they have for sale. I'd probably check some of the restomod catalogs or some such thing (Mustangs Unlimited has the swap parts, so they might carry a stock-looking handle as well).

A classic Hurst Shifter handle bolts right up to a stock T-5 shifter. I use one on my '64 Mustang.
