suspension clunk...2007 GT

First noticed it after I got a new set of tires.... I have put aftermarket suspension on this car, but haven't had any issues with it until I was driving home from Discount Tire. I know they don't always have the finest mechanically inclined personel, so I took off the wheels and inspected everything I can think of....can't see anything wrong. I wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas before I pull out the struts and springs. It seems to be coming from the front, (passenger's side, probably) and it actually went away for a few days and came back once again. I have done a "shake this, and move that" inspection. Any ideas? It has steeda shocks/struts, and springs. Thanks in advance: Mark

There's been a Technical Service Bulletin about "popping" noises in the front suspension of the S197s almost since the first ones were sold. Not every car exhibits the problem. Quite a few have had the strut mounts replaced under warranty. Sometimes it came back after a while. My understanding is that replacing the originals with GT500 units solves it.

eBaY item 390019387005; cheap, but best installed when you do a shock/strut/spring job.

Damn, I was going to suggest this but figured you had checked. I chased a clunk from the passenger side for 2 weeks then located it as actually on the driver side. The swaybar mount was loose but damned if it didnt sound like the passenger side. It would only rattle when the right side was hittign bumps.

Had a long term "clunking" on my Saleen.....seems they finally put out a bulletin to re-torque swaybars every 10K.....solved my problem and now do it every oil change (7.5k)

RM... this is exactly the way it was on my car. Both sides needed a little tightening, but I was almost sure it was on the passengers side, and the side that was extremely loose was the drivers side.... Guess this makes a little sense if you think about the way a sway bar works, and how it ties together both sides of the suspension. Well, now I know, and I will be checking them often from now on. Afterwards, steering felt tighter than ever. (guess I had gotten used to the car walking a little on the road...) THANKS! Mark

The Steeda front swaybar instructions include an admonition to use LocTite Red, which in my experience renders the take-off process worse than the put-on process, with regard to getting the links tight without twisting the rubber boot at all. After the first re-tightening (no LocTite) I've used new nuts and Blue, and they haven't loosened in a year of twisties.
