Thunk on 2nd to 3rd shift

Apr 12, 2005 3 Replies

I bought a 2002 GT a couple of months ago. When up shifting from 2nd to 3rd at high RPMs > 4500 I get a thunk sound and it feels like the stick jumps out of 2nd gear. During normal driving I don't notice it. I have a couple of months left on the warrantee so I will have the dealership look at it. Has anyone else experienced this? What was wrong?

Thanks, Mark

Could be slack in the driveline. Hard to say from that description.

have someone put the car up in the air and check the usual things first thing I'd check is trans mount and slack in the u-joints. engine mounts too. then go from there.

When you DO figure it out, let us know. It might help someone else find a mystery noise.
