Head to your neighborhood library and read the Oct'06 copy of Road & Track. That will give you a bunch to pick from, including some you can afford, and lots that I can't.

If you don't need headroom or a backseat, Corvette wins on performance/price and Ferrari wins on style+performance IMHO.

The new Camaro???!!! Will be a 'nicer car' than a Mustang?

So you have insider info that GM has changed its views regarding how much fit and finish they need in it, compared to the last issue?

I'm kinda partial to the Bugatti Veyron 16.... they're only rated at 1001 HP, so I'm holding out for something with a little more "zip".

-- As someone already posted, the Charger SRT-8, as well as its 6.1 liter SRT siblings Magnum, 300 and the lesser versions (and less expensive) with the regular 5.7 liter Hemi.

-- Pontiac GTO (disregard those who criticize its mild-mannered looks; this car flat out rocks!)

-- Subaru WRX STi

-- Mitsubishi EVO (There are RS IX and MR -- version starting at around

30K and running up to around $35K)

-- Honda S2000 (though not as fast as a Mustang GT it's an excellent performance car)

-- Honda Element EX-P (just kidding)

If image isn't that important then the Honda Accord EX V6 (244hp 211ftlb torque) gives more than reasonable performance and handling with much better fit and finish than the Mustang. Probably have to go to a BMW 330 or M3 for a better balanced Sedan. You can get pretty much the same thing in an Acura for 20% more price.

My wife has a BMW 330 with a manual and she loves it. It's faster than my 93 GT. :-(

Thanks guy for all the ideas and if you know of more list them too gonna test drive them all, (except the $250K one).

I's still driving the 93 musting with 8# boost keene bell, tons of torque, can get rubber in 1,2 and 3 gear, but it dosent like the Texas summertime, likes to ping a lot, 160k miles. So I need a replacement. The 06 Mustang seems OK but I dont like the bog when starting, like they have a torque limiter on all the time, much less fun, but safer, and the pipes are loud, and not all that classie inside. The 87 was tuned up hot too, both the 87 and 93 were ex cop cars bought them at the auction, cheap.

My neighbour, I don't know him, just bought a new 2007 Merecedes SL65 AMG.

738lbs of torque from the factory! $248,000.

I don't like Mercedes but I gotta say, nice car.

At the time of my post we had pretty much decided, but we had to go back a final time to test drive another Xb and Vibe just to make sure we had picked the right vehicle. We have to be sure we like what where buying because we hold onto our vehicles for a long time -- the average is about 10 years.
