2000 I30 Gas Mileage

Jul 14, 2004 2 Replies

I have a 2000 I30 with 61K miles on it. I am only getting 16 mpg in mostly city and a little of hwy driving with A/C on most of the time. I think I should be getting more. I replaced the air filter and put a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner - didn't help much. Anything else I can do? The owner's manual recommends changing spark plugs at 105K so I don't know what else to do. The car was inspected by two mechanics (not from dealership though) and seems to be in perfect shape.

Seems a little low, but it really depends on how "city" it is and your driving habits. You might want to have the engine management system codes read. You dould have something like a bad knock sensor and not know it. You are using 91 octane, right? Low octane gas will cut your mileage.
