85 Nissan Pickup

85 Pickup with a Z24 motor, manual trans and it's carbureted. I've now had this problem twice. Drive the truck to work, park and work 8-10 hours. Get in at the end of the day, start the truck and it runs normally for 60-90 secs., then it dies. Cranks over fine but won't restart. If I pump the gas pedal twenty or thirty times and try again, it runs for 15 seconds and dies. Truck has new plugs, rotor and cap, plug wires and new coils. Full tank of gas and I can hear the fuel pump running. What do I try next? Thanks in advance for any and all help! Don

Hi Don, I had a similar problem with my 85 and it was the fuel pump relay under the right side dash above the tray, bolted to the body. Are you sure that is the pump you are hearing? When it does not start, get under and unhook the connector to the fuel pump and check for 12 volts when the ignition is on the last click before start. I would reseat the fuel pump relay connector and off it would go, but that was temporary. I ended up bypassing the relay and putting 12 volts from the same connector right to the pump and it has been working since. The local Nissan dealer hasd one for 85$.... Jerry

Jerry, I forgot to mention in my origional post that the fuel pump is on a seperate switch due to a problem in the ignition switch and can be turned on before the ignition switch. I can hear the pump running before I try the ignition. Another thing, after the tow home, about three hours after the origional failure, fired it up in the driveway and it runs like a champ! I'm running out of ideas. The only thing I can think of that both failures had in common is that the outside temp on both days was near 100 degrees. Why this would cause the problem, I DUNNO! Thanks! Don
