I haven't had this car that long and was wondering how to find out what is causing this? The car has 113.000 miles on it.

1995 Maxima, my check engine light just came on, I am taking it in on Wednesday.
There are close to 65 sensors that ultimately feed the Check Engine light, so you need a computer to read out the failure.
One easy check to make is that your gas tank is pressurized, when you release the cap it should hiss, if not, then simply a loose gas cap can cause the check engine light to come on.

It's probably an oxygen sensor. I believe that motor has three of them.
