Manual Transmission Fluid?

I have a 4 cylinder 1995 Nissan XE 2WD pick-up truck with a 5 speed manual transmission. I was wondering what type of fluid this manual transmission requires?

Also, any recommendations for routine maintenance on this manual transmission in addition to changing the fluid would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

if you have left the change too long, some say you should leave it because all the accumulated guck will move and cause trouble. i think you change it once a year for manuals. it is called gear oil. 80 weight or something. not much of it around for some reason. i guess people don't change it.

Switch to Redline or Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil.Go to the Redline site for which type for the rear and trans.Change after warming up by driving truck.Better to change it no matter how long it's been in there.I don't understand the statement of it moving? If there is "gunk" in there it moves around everytime the vehicle is driven.Better to get it out then leave it in.

FYI - Only heard of leaving auto trans fluid in if it's been in too long as fluid gums up and fills gaps between worn 'discs'??. Removing it I guess would increase wear symptoms. Not sure of the theory in manuals.

no need to spend a lot of money on synthetic oil or the latest wizz bang redline or whatever you call it

use a good quality 85W90 GL5 gear oil and change it along with the differential oil every 60k miles and all will be fine
