I find it always pays to call around to a couple of dealers and check the suggested retail on one of the dealer web sites. I have been quoted a 2x difference in price for the same thing just calling two different dealers a few miles apart.

Here in Florida, Napa would be my 3rd call. They are basically the most expensive out of all the retail stores.

  1. Nissan (just to get a good laugh)
  2. Autozone (80/20 chance)
  3. Napa (60/40 chance)
  4. Ebay (50/50 chance)
  5. Advanced Auto Parts (50/50 chance)
  6. Pep Boys (40/60 chance)
  7. Western Auto Parts (40/60 chance)
  8. Salvage Yard (30/70 chance)
  9. Local Newpaper Yard Sale Ad (20/80 chance)

Huh? He got the exact same part by the original manufacturer with the same part number. How would buying it in a Nissan box have been worth 3X the price?

i gotta agree with Jim V in this particular instance- but there are cases where buying dealer parts will make a difference; also there are some parts that are not available in aftermarket- although i have noticed a trend where you can find more and more stuff at your local auto parts store. it is however a case of economies- if you have time to be stranded, towed, and repair the vehicle yourself or have it repaired, then buy the cheapest crappiest parts you can find; if you want a durable reliable car and can afford the investment then you buy good quality parts that are oem or oem specification- and usually thats the dealer parts. im sure there is anecdotal evidence to the contrary, but when NissTech says you get what you pay for- he does know what he's talking about.

I think he was speaking generally. I bought my TPS at AutoZone for $42.00 and also was pleasantly surprised to see that it was the same Hitachi TPS that my truck left the factory with.

I went to NAPA and priced a distributor cap for a Honda I was working on, they wanted $27.79, OUCH! The honda dealer sold me the same part (actually was a better part) for $10.28.

man what a mark-up!
