94 VG30E maxima KNOCK? help!

hi my max 94 Vg30e 133K just noticed, that im hearing a Knocking sound? sort of "Flap-flap", .happens only when cold startup, when engine warms up its all Gone!!.....so far new tune up, new tranny, new Timing belt , always 93 octane gas.( should i go lower?). Altough i got a leak on the valve cover( seemed to have stoped anyways) rear valve cover passenger side...is it OIL pressure not lubicating the internals (10-30)? maybe cuz i have a valve oil leak? ....any help.inputs.appreciated.

Did this coincide with the new Tbelt? A loose Tbelt can do what you describe.

hi not sure if it started when it really started ,would say around 2 weeks ago..could be a possibility though, does it need to be adjusted after install? i have 500 miles( 1 1/2 months on Timing Belt )- after install..

No.

Another clue is the distributor sounds noisy (rattles) when the belt is loose.

Check the main pulley bolt, if this comes loose it will allow the end of the crankshaft/pulley to rattle on the key, eventually damaging the end of the crank.

hi thanks all even when the sound is there is perfectly drivable , why does it go away when engine is warm? runs like a champ!(hehe)

The timing belt tightens slightly as the engine warms up. The engine actually grows as it comes up to temp and the distance between the crank and the cam changes enough to make a loose belt when cold tighten up enough to be quiet when warm. If the pulley bolt was loose, it wouldn't get quiet when it warmed up.

Normally they just need the screws tightened a bit.
