Help -- 91 Maxima transmission

Engine starts fine, shifts through all the gears, won't go. Transmission fluid level okay, no burned odor. No unusual noise before or now. 155k miles.

Over the past 2 months the car sometimes would not start, not all the time but on a random basis. Thought it was the starter, so replaced it 3 weeks ago. Ran fine during that time but but now the engine fails to start on an intermittent basis and when it does, the tranny doesn't engage. Could it be the neutral start switch or something simpler like the linkage? Thanks in advance. F

Does the car click when you try to turn it over or do you hear the engine trying to start?

Engine starts fine, nothing unusual. Put her in drive and no response but the engine does rev up normally.

Could be dozens of things. A drive axle that has pulled out of the tranny, shift linkage that has popped off but sounds more like a transmission problem to me. Could be electronic part of the tranny? At 155K it wouldn't be unheard of for the tranny to just crap out.

Make sure the linkage is ok, Make sure that the gear selector line is still attached. When the car is running, put it in drive and see if it can be pushed. Make sure that the drive axle isn't broken and spinning freely.
