V6 Maxima engine not starting

I have a 94 maxima manual (V6) , the engine will not fire when cranking from the starter. When I gave it a push and jumped the clutch, the engine fired and ran normally. When I switched off, same thing happened, crank the starter and engine not firing, gave the vehicle a push and engine started.

What can be my problem? had the computer diagnostic run and fault identified as started circuit. Changed the starter and engine cranked and fired, ran quite well but when it was shut off, will not crank start again. Push the vehicle and engine will start and run.

I need help.

It would be helpful to know which car this is. The engine in the GXE and the SE is quite different.

Could be almost anything. Start with a tune up, check the valve timing and do a compression test. Could be a basic mechanical issue or it could be a sensor liek the cam shaft position sensor going bad.

... the engine will not fire when cranking fromthe starter. ....

- Batt low. Starter draws 500Amps sinking all, especially ECU/IGN voltage below operational limit. Push start does not drop voltage. Check voltage, Charge the batt...

- IF

-then- Why Batt is low? Charging problems due to burned alt rectifier, regulator. Bad grounding, connectors is one possible cause.

- Oxidized connections cause 'voltage starvation' (=diag results) worsening the situation mentioned, see link below, pages 14 & 10. Check start/inhibit relay contact pins in the box under water reservoir; see p.5, alt p.23.

- One minor probability is semi-cut harness wire(s) between engine-chassis. Check wire & harness condition near heater hoses going into cabin.. Push-start does affect engine angle, harness is moving, cut wire-contacts vary.

The problem sounds like a ground problem to me. I had this problem a long time ago, the car would crank but would not start. I put it in gear (manual trans) and partially release the clutch pedal at the time i cranked the engine, and it would start. The problem was a poor engine ground and the shifting in gear and releasing the clutch somehow would help with the ground.
