106 Sump

Hi

Can anyone enlighten me as to whether the 106 1.4 diesel sump has a gasket or is just sealed with gasket compound? I think ours has got a slight leak (one of two possible places) and at some stage I'm going to have to remove it and try to reseal it. The Haynes BoL doesn't mention a gasket but that doesn't mean anything.

I would have thought it would have a gasket, but I have had excellent results using the silicone instant gasket stuff. Just make sure that both surfaces are oil free. Normal jointing compound by itself would be a waste of time.

Thanks. It's a possibility that it could even be the oil pressure sensor as there appears to be dampness around it or the crankshaft oil seal at the fan belt end. The problem is that th eleak only appears when driven and the air flow distributes the oil over the underside of the engine and car so even though I clean it off with white spirit it's difficult to locate.
