306 auxiliary drivebelt fitting

Hi there,

I'm trying to fit a new auxiliary drivebelt to my '97 306 D Turbo (no air con) and am having terrible trouble getting the belt on. The car has a manually adjusted tensioning pulley. The Haynes manual says to fit the belt in this order: PAS, Crankshaft, Alternator then tensioning pulley. Even with the tensioner set to the maximum I can't get the belt on. The new belt (geniune Peugeot) is 2 cm shorter than the old one but I assume this is because the old one has stretched.

Can anybody offer advice as to how to get the belt on?

Many thanks, Kris
