306 clunky noises

Grinding noise could be wheel bearings, the clunky sound.... - Don't know.

Could be those funny drop-link things that 306's have.

Check the anti-roll bar rubber bushes, behind the engine. These can cause a knock over bumps if worn.

Return it to the mecahnic/garage that changed the drive shaft and ask what is wrong - it may be related to the work he/they did.

Hi there

Thanks for your advice. I?m taking the car back to the garage on Monday. Alarm bells should have started ringing earlier as when I picked it up last time the drive shaft fell off as they fitted the wrong one.

But before trying another garage, ask 1 question of yourself.... DID YOU ASK THEM TO FIX IT (OR EVEN TELL YOU WHAT IT IS)?

If you didn't it might be worth going back and asking them how much. If you did and they said you needed a new drive shaft to fix it then complain.

I took it back to the garage, who said the driver?s side drive shaft "boot" (the rubber seal around a joint) had burst and caused the joint to dry out. They said it might be possible to replace the boot and fix it, otherwise it means a new drive shaft (it was the passenger side we had replaced.)

They also said the steering mounts (?) were loose and needed fixing, but I?m not sure if this is connected to the noise.

Slowly moving while turning full-lock towards the passenger side makes a loud noise. So, it does sound like the joint, but I?m surprised its on the driver?s side when the noise seems to be coming from the passenger side.

Back to the garage at lunchtime, methinks!
