Hi, look for, at the very least, 2.0HDi, 90BHP, DW10TD, although probably the new 307's engines have different parameters, check it please. I don't know how do you drive, if softly it would be nice engine, if you have sport aspiration look for 2.0HDi 110BPH or 136BPH engines. Good luck,

In all seriousness, DONT DO IT. I have a 02 110 hdi and I would never buy one again.

There is a reason it came 158 of 159 cars in the Top Gear survey

And that reason it came second to last is that only the 807 is worse? :-)

What problems did you have with your 307?

Head gasket blown at ~45K Clutch failed and had to be replaced (known fault) Coolant leaks CD player a pile of ****, keeps crashing (doesn't even have repeat!) Door pannels vibrate badly when you turn the volume up. Electrics reboot for no reason, fun at night when all the lights turn off for a few seconds Carpet does not fit windscreen wipers do not go to the edge of the screen and wipe in wrong order (crap conversion from left hand driver) FAP filter needs replacing (£600!!) D-Turbo tyres ~£140 each due to werid size (not really a fault) but gets through them rather fast Lots of strange bangs and crashes from suppension while driving Garage's are on the whole, crap (Find this with most makes these days) though the current one is quite good. Engine cover/guard (the one at the bottom) partly fell off, resulting in it being smashed on a speed hump. Trim generally falling off. Peugeot Customer Care are a bunch of usless f*****. Hi I have a problem with my 307 --- Please put it in writing so we can ignore you.

Apart from that, I find it a nice car to drive :-(

After reading your list it reminded me of a few more

The windows should close when the car is locked - this became an intermittent feature Break discs lasted 30K before cracking. The new set seem to be heading the same way. Intermittent burning smell when driving and center tunnel getting hot (I think this is the FAP regenerating but it's rather off-putting while driving)

Have a look at a Seat Leon TDI, a friend has one and so far has not had any issues and it's a lovely car to drive.

And my experience from my 307 '51 plate:

Not yet on mine, coolant and everything else is fine

allready looks like it's been replaced

Nope, not one just a little weeping around the top rad hose

No probems and it does have repeat (although only on one disc at a time), ok it doesn't play CD-R/W's but that's all I can fault it on

Happens in any car ;-) just more so in the 307 as the speakers are mounted on the door trim panels and they're not rigid enough

Had it happen once in 8 months

Ok I'll give you that one but you only notice it if you look closely where the footwells and sill cover meet

Same problem with any other LHD derived car, although I find washing the car keeps the screen clear enough!

not needed that yet

Ever though of trying another make? Kumho £80 fitted inc VAT, as for getting through them fast; drive less aggressively (that's also probably where some of oyur other problems come from)

Yep, not as refined as a 306 but when loaded up it's fine and doesn't bottom out

You get that with about 90% of all main dealer garages these days

HOW??? did you hit something first (like the speed bump).. it's actually fixed in place ontop of the reverse side of the bumper so that it CAN'T fall down under it's own weight even if all the front screws fall out

Happens with any car that isn't German or Japanese

Hi martin,

It was with great trepidation we traded in our 3 year old focus for an 8 month old 02 reg 307hdi 110bhp with 8000 miles on it. 30,000 miles in 18 months and absolutely no problems ... although we did hear a creaking seemingly from the front suspension .. so took it to the dealers. They fixed it under warranty (a known problem) and while I was waiting for the car to be fixed I saw an 04 reg 8 month old 307 hdi 110 with 13000 miles on. I'd changed jobs and was doing far fewer miles. The car had was a 'DT' model with the XSi spec (all the toys and half leather 'recaro' style seats. We picked it up 4 days later and have had it for a year (done 7000 miles) and it has been trouble free ... well ok, the boot latch got a bit fiddly to open .. and was changed under warranty.

I think the 307 will go up the JD power rating as the newer ones start to be taken into account.

Happy motoring.

Get a Phase III 306 HDi on a Y-reg (2001): the last plate for the 3 and 5- door hatch. Go for the Meridian trim-level and get all the toys.

You won't regret it.

You WILL regret buying a 307.

No such problems with my 2003 2.0 HDi Dturbo - feels very well put together compared to my last car, a 1989 309 GRD.

Hmm, not a great number of 307 fans. I've had 307's as hire cars. What stopped me buying one was that I am tall and I found a problem with the latest ones, when I adjusted the seat and steering wheel until I was comfortable I could not see the bottom of the instrument cluster, which was annoying at night because I could not see the indicator lamps showing whether I was on dip or main beam without leaning forward. It also did not feel any bigger than my old 306, though I am sure the first 307's did feel bigger. The early 307 did also felt a bit 'van-ish' compared to the

306,despite me having the really sporty 1.9 non-turbo desiel.

I got a year old 407 in the end.
