406 Coupe stereo code

I've just had my coupe back from some garage work to find the radio not working. I assume they disconnected various electrics as part of the work, but I've never had problems with the CODE before.

When I put a code in the radio does come on, but makes a continual beep every 5 seconds or so - strangely the same beep you get when you programme a channel into one of the 6 preselects. I can't get rid of the problem, and the unit will then again ask for a CODE when it has been turned off and on.

The only other button that appears to do anything when I am asked for the CODE is number 1, which when I press it and hold brings up a 0 on screen. It will do this four times before showing ERR CODE and locking the unit for a preiod of time.

Since I don't have a manual for the car can anyone help?

I *think* you have to put the code in then press another button (maybe 6, or poss the BND button?) to store it. I'm struggling to remember - I looked in the handbook but the (2002) 406 I've got now has a radio that's coded to the cars ECU, so there's no code to input (and therefore no instruction in the handbook how to do it). Perhaps a friendly (if you can find one) Peugeot dealer can advise, or perhaps the dealer who originally supplied the car, if no-one else answers here?

Most Pugs are fitted with Clarion units. The code for these units is held in a an internal EEPROm. If you post the unit model number (example: Model PU-9679A) I will advise further.

Mine doesn't have a code that needs to be input - it's 'matched' to the cars ECU so it'll only work in my car. I *think* the OP has the code for his (older than mine) radio, he just doesn't know the correct procedure for inputting the code.

Sorry, I replied to the wrong post in the thread. Anyways if the OP gives his radio model number then I'll see if I can help.

Guys thanks for the info so far...I'll be trying it tonight, but will be back with more info on Monday if it doesn't work.

If it does, then thanks in advance!

Hi!

I have the manual if you still need help. There are several different models, so if you can describe your unit I probably can help you.

No luck so far. And the unit doesn't have a model number on it, so i can only decribe how it looks. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for the unit number?. Anyways, its a T-reg coupe (1999).

The unit is all factory built in, with a flip cassette, CD changer in the boot. All the control buttons are below the flip cassette in two rows, the top row each with two functions on, and the bottom row the 6 presets in pairs like this ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ (___ ___)(___ ___)(___ ___)

Thanks

Ok. If your unit doesn't have a display in the middle of it, this should be the solution:

Example code: 2345

  • Turn ON the unit.
  • Press the "1"-button once. A zero will appear in the display.
  • Then press the left/right "play-buttons" (the upper fwd/rev) to the number "2" appears (As the first number in my example. you press so it matches the first number of your code)
  • Then push the "1"-button again. A new zero will appear.
  • Use the left/right buttons again until the second digit in your code appears. Then push the "1" butten again.
  • Repeat until your code is complete, then push "1"

I hope this will work and you understand my english! ;)
