2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Went to the store last night no problems! Came out and the car would not start, it would just crank but no fire. The window was down yesterday at the store so when I walked up to it I just unlocked the door from the power window switch. Does Pontiac have a built in kill switch of any kind? Every thing else is in good order. Fuses good, fuel pump working, but the car just cranks and does not fstart. Where is the best place to start? Any one who can help please let me know.

is the security light flashing?

The only light that flaskes is the theft lock light on the stereo when the car is off. When you put the key in the ignition it turns off though. I was not sure if they had another sort of kill swith installed by the factory that I was not aware of.

Yes I just looked at the dash the security light flashes when you stick the key in and turn it to the ac position. When you try and start the car it turns off, so I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to work or not.

not sure if it stayed the same, but on my 99, if the theft light is flashing it needs to be reset, turn the ignition to on for 600 seconds, and it shoudl stay on then, turn off ignition, then try starting, should work

damn, that was poorly written, turn the igition to on and the theft light should flash, it will continue to do so for 600 seconds (10 minutes) and then the light will stay on constant, then turn off igition and then try starting again

Thank you, I just found that on another website while I was searching for answers. I went through and left the key in the on position for 10 minutes the secutiry light reset and the car started right up. Thank you very much for all of your help!! I had a hunch it was something to do with security but I could not figure out what or how to reset it. But again thank you!! Much appriciated!! I think the battery is a little low from trying to start it for the past two days so I am going to go let it charge. We lost the key fab so I guess I need to order a new one to avoid this in the future!! Have a great evening!
