Long rambling nonsense, if you aren't into cars ignore and go kill yourself

I started out as a Mopar fanatic. Then front wheel drive became the corporate cry. So I turned to GM. Never much cared for Fords even though I did dig the 68 Cougar 302 Boss I once owned. GM peed down my neck and tried to convince me it was only rain when they killed the F-Body and gave the market to Ford. Now they bring up crap, yes I said crap, like the SSR and the "GTO". The Impala SS is now a front wheel driver and GM styling at this time would have Harley Earle spinning so fast in his grave he could generate

8 million megawatts per second. Where am I going with this rant you may ask. Mopar is again coming out with real cars. REAL cars. Rear wheel drive, Hemi powered, drool over them cars like the 300, the Crossfire, and the Magnum SRT. These aren't "put your name on a list and we'll get back to you cars". You can go down to the local Chrysler dealer and pick one up. Yea, I know, It's Daimler-Chrysler now. So what? Cool is cool. Where am I going with this you may ask. I have X amount of discretionary income. I have a choice to make. 71 Dodge Challenger or a new Magnum SRT. My Birds will always have good homes but to be honest as they get older, they get pricier to keep up. I guess the point of this long nonsensical rant is to get opinions. What would YOU do?

I'm not in the market for a new car just yet.

I'll agree that the 300 & Magnum are nice looking cars. 2006 will see the addition of the 300 Hardtop Coupe and a convertible.

Here's hoping the General is watching. Be nice to see a 217.5" long RWD Wildcat again.

The 300 is fugly, it looks like all the other square grilled 4 headlight monstrosities that came out of the 70's.

Funny thing, the new 300 seems to be a "love it or hate it" car. There seems to be no middle ground on that. In a way it's a lot like the new GTO. Folks either love them for the performance specs or hate them because of the "Toyota-ese" styling or lack thereof. The new Mustangs look good but I just can't picture myself in one after so many years as a F-body fanatic.

I've told about 50 people the 300C is my next car if I were buying a sedan. Unfortunately, my next car is going to be a truck - I need something that can tow a racecar and carry plywood and my truck is rusting to nothing. But the 300 series whips GM's ass because FWD is gay.

If you are looking to buy a half-ton DON'T buy the Ram with a Hemi. A buddy bought one and the mileage sucks big time. The Ford Lighning, with a blower, gets better mileage and has a higher towing capacity. My recommendation; buy an oler GMC and spend some bucks to fix it up. You'll be better off in the long run.

I'll probably be buying a 92-99 ext cab 4x4 Chev/GMC. Depending on $$... either the "classic" 5.7 or the new 5.3. It'll be my winter truck/second car for the summer.

Hate it! The 300 looks like a Korean automaker's attempt to build a cheaper Cadillac CTS-V. I'll take the CTS-V thanks. It has an edge to it. I'll leave the boxes to those who think "square is cool".

By the way FBR, don't be confused by all the "Yep, it's a Hemi!" hype in advertising. The 5.7 hemi is but a pale comparison of the big-block hemi at best. If you want to see what a real hemi is, check out this link and see what hemi is all about:

Buy the 71 Dodge Challenger and drop in a real hemi!!! ;-)

The GTO uses an LS1. It is rear wheel drive. It slightly out performs the Hemi. What the hell do you mean, "whips GM's ass"?

I'll agree that other than the GTO, GM has squat. I hope they change that.

PS: I like the 300C and the Mgnum.

Because the GTO isn't available in Canada. I live in Canada. :) my bad. I forgot about the GTO because of that. I get to pick from fwd crap. And the SSR is a fat overpriced pig.

I'd take a GTO over a 300C, but I can't, and the 300C is a "regular" car at a regular price - the GTO is a special car at a premium price.

And none of it matters because I have to buy a truck to replace my Jimmy... but my Trans Am fears no 300C.

The GTO is sweet, corvette power without the "wow-he-must-be-going-through-his-mid-life-crisis" stigma, plus if you look around you can get it for less then $30K

In a year or 2 I'm gonna look around for a 2006, hopefully right before the

2007's come out so I can benefit from both the year end closeout and GMS pricing.

The new mustang looks alright, nice retro design, from what I've seen the new retro Camaro will make nice competition for it.

The 300C is a "regular car?"

the 'hemi' 5.7L model starts at $33K, the same as a GTO, the base model is comparable to a Impala/Monte/Grand Prix, and the Touring and Limited are around the same as an SS Supercharged Impala/Monte/Grand Prix.

Not sure why everyone is so impressed with the Hemi motor, If you can't get at LEAST 50-60ft/lbs of torque per litre (1ft/lb per in^3) your engine designers suck.

Oh yeah, and how can I forget the Vette. But again, like you say the price is high. But then so is that SSR pig, and it isn't even a top notch V8.

Only Honda Owners brag about HP per Litre.

Real mean only car about Power to weight Ratio. Aint much to brag about till your at 10 to 1. That's 10 pounds per horse power.

Well, that puts my 35 year old technoligy 455 at 66ft/lbs per liter.

The 300C IS a regular car. You can buy them off the lot, you can take a test drive, you can negotiate the price of one. John Q Public buys one because he likes it. A Viper is a special car. A Vette is a special car. Mustangs aren't special - certain ones are, but the base 'Stang is just another crappy Ford... From what I read, the GTO was supposed to be somewhat special - 18,000 cars max... they've probably already made

18,000 300Cs... which is why the 300 series is nothing special - they're just a sedan...

For me, it'll be nice in 5 years when I have kids and need a sedan. Cheap used RWD cars available again. :)

I agree. But then again I remember when late 60's Impala's were cheap and plentiful.
