My 89 Pontiac Grand Prix will not start.

When I turn the ignition it seems like something is jamming to keep the car from starting. It sounds like the starter but I had it checked and it is okay. I know the problem is in the area of the starter, but don't know where to try next. The batter is fine, but something is keeping the car from turning over. It's almost like something is stuck in the way...????

Engine siezed? Blown head gasket filled cyl with antifreeze?

had the same problem, car was running fine then while on highway, engine ,trouble lights came on and engine killed, upon not starting again, had car towed to my garage, tried to turn over ,but engine would give a little tug like something stuck in way,it seemed like power to starter but something was preventing flywheel from turning more then an inch or so,turned out that the timing chain has snapped and piled down at the bottom of the timing chain housing jamming the bottom sprocket. good luck
