Here we go again - now I'm starting to think my car isn't as reliable as I thought. '88 Pontiac 6000 2.5L 123k 4 door. The past few days, it would start fine, but when I'd let off the key after the vehicle turned over, it would be almost like I let go of the key too soon because it would just barely catch and start, but I know that the engine started, so I let off the key. This morning, the same thing, only this time it died. Then I went and tried starting it again. It would turn over, but it was turning over funny. I don't know exactly how to explain it. (It wasn't cranking slow though.) So I went inside, got my mom to show her what it was doing. I went out there, tried starting it, and it cranked fine, and when it started, it ran really crappy for about 5 seconds then died. (We also gave it gas during these seconds.) When it died, there was a pop noise. (Like a backfire.) Kind of like what a lawn mower does when it won't start. Tried it again, and finally it started, but it still was running crappy. Gave it some gas, and eventually it cleared up. On the way to school, wherever I needed to accelerate, I would put the dang thing to the floor or close to it to see if that would clear up anything. (No I didn't speed, though and I rarely floor it.) Anyway, got halfway to school and it started smelling like rotten eggs. (Not a real strong smell, but noticeable.) I don't have a catalytic converter going out, do I? This afternoon, it started up just fine and drove fine the whole way home without any smells, problems, etc. By the way, no SES light either this morning. Was it a fluke?
