Re: Headlight Doors Question??(Harry Face)

I know it has two motors on the headlights, theres wires running to the one on the passenger side. They open and close as normal with the light switch but they also come open at about 55 MPH and close when I stop.It looks like a lot of stuff to take off to see whats going on.Thanks for any help.I've got some other things on it that need fixing,as I noticed the distribitor is seeping some oil.Take care.Bobby

While we're answering questions about headlight doors popping open, can someone tell me why my Fiero's headlight doors would pop up spontaneously for NO REASON AT ALL when it was doing 90MPH? :-)

Because my Dad was driving and he's a crazy old man when he gets near a semi-deserted straight road... even the huge springs holding the doors shut couldn't overcome the force of the air under the car... looked quite eerie.

Well Bobby Swift it seems you've got everybody stumped with this problem. I can't imagine what is permitting the headlight covers to raise other than some linkage rod being dismantled or a stripped motor gear. But you claim they work fine when turned on. I've never really studied the covers, I think the only used them 1 or 2 years.

Do the covers lift up if you grab them with your hand ? Maybe the fiberglass has separated from something?

Hmmmm?

Why wasn't there a recall on Pontiac Gm 1.8 and 2.0 on blown head gaskets?I bought an 88 Sunbird with this problem,it had a lot of oil on it when I bought it the dealer assured me it was the valve cover,it only had 50k mi.on it.Once I got it home and cleaned it off found out it was head gasket blowing oil.Anyway I noticed there were a lot of these engines had this problem. This should have been a recall! Thanks for any replys.Bobby Swift
