I've been having a problem with my convertible top operation. When trying to lower it, the toneau cover releases the back (5th bow?) and the back starts to raise. Then something strange happens, when it's about halfway up the SID 'dings' and reads 'Check Soft Top'. The only thing to do at this point is disengage the hydraulics and manually lower the cover back in place. Once done, I can successfully reengage the system, lock the top back down and start the process over again, but I get the same results with out fail. I'd like to avoid dealership costs, but don't even know where to begin. Is there a microswitch broken? Could this be caused by a hydraulics leak? Help would be appreciated and a reference to some repair guide (i.e., Chilton's) would be GREAT.

The sensor may be shot. In my '07, the "check soft top" message comes on whenever I put the windows down.
Thanks Lee. Any ideas where I can get a new sensor or where I can find a repair guide? I just hate getting gouged by the dealer all the time, but everything needs a TECH II on this darned car.
Do you have an indie repair shop? Check out

for recs.
I have an indie shop, but they're not much less than the dealer. $85/hr + same parts cost as dealer. Only reason I chose them is the better service. I found the mechanics link, but where are the recommendations?
