You may have lost a band or part of one, or an O-ring.

Yeah I think you might be right. Car drives OK though. I've put 8k on it since I bought it, and apart from the inconvenience of it popping out (always happens when approaching a junction, or a tight parking space), I just have to be aware, and get ready to stick it back in before I get on gas. Lucky I can usually hear it as pops.
