Speedo Head and check engine light

Hello all,

We have two Saabs and (at least) two problems.

1) the speedometer head on my wife's 1990 900 is partly broken. The speedometer works fine but the tripmeter and the odometer no longer advance. My local shop says they'll send it out to VDO for a rebuild estimated at $200+. Add to that the cost of removal and reinstallation and I'm looking at something like $500. I know we could just live without the odometer but I like to have everything working. Does anyone know of a good source for a rebuilt VDO speedometer head? I can do the R&R myself.

2) I have a 97 9000 Aero with the usual Check Engine Light problem. Every so often, when I first start up in the a.m., the engine idles very low and that's enough to switch on the check engine light. I take it into the shop, they check for codes, say it's nothing and charge me for 1/2 hour. I'd like to just clear the light myself. The car gets all the regular maintenance, has good readouts on its emissions tests, so I'm pretty sure there's no actual problem. The question is how do I clear the codes and shut off that Check Engine Light.

Thanks.

Disconnect the battery for a couple of seconds, and it's gone...
