test drive of 05 9-3 linear

Just got back from dealer (in US). Drove an 05 9-3 Linear 5-speed manual. Ride was nice. Turbo felt smooth when needed. However, I felt something kicking down at my right/accelerator foot. I couldn't quite see what it was, as it was dark. Felt like a loose panel maybe.

I also learned...

1) Onstar seems to be out for 2005. Salesman indicated they are phasing it out. 2) In the showroom I spotted the ever sexy convertible...final assembly point: Austria??? What's with that? 3) German engine, Japanese gearbox....hmmm.

Onstar is out, navigation system is in (as an option).

Many auto makers subcontract the manufacturing ( modification of basic vehicle ) of convertibles to specialists. Not at all unusual.

Maybe, but given Saab's financial struggles (and questionable future) you would think that the Trollhattan plant would want to be producing as many cars as possible (to achieve economies of scale), even if it meant some production line retooling.

Specialization is expensive, and for somethign like that, you want the expert in convertables to be doing it.

If you hadn't snipped the previous post incorrectly and top-posted your reply to confuse things more - you'd have seen that was exactly what I was saying !
