Take the job. Once in power you can change the rules and go to Omaha on a 'promoting business junket'. Might even pay for your rooms and meals (for your entourage, of course!)

As a side note... Was this for the town that you quit because of the idjits infighting between their fiefdom departments? As a double side note... The word 'Interim' makes me queasy... I interject 'no benefits, no internal support, and no security with those words. Write your own work agreement that spells out your terms and conditions and let the city commissioners all agree to it ahead of time. Jeff (just curious) Rice

Interim managers are hired while a search goes on for a new guy/gal to replace one that goes quickly, (usually) booted. They weren't planning to replace the CM, which usually takes a nationwide search. Sometimes they already have their guy picked, but he/.she isn't ready. You usually are there to see that all runs smoothly, not change anything. The department heads will just pay you lip service because they know your going away......unless of course, if you don't, and get hired. I was detailed to a interim CM for a week to explain the Fire Department. He couldn't care less, he was already retired. Usually pretty good money for a short time. Perfect in my opinion. Dave must have good organizational skills. And he impressed someone, somewhere. Well done.

Remember, most "interim" city managers turn into city managers.

Reminds me of my home town... no city manager unless you count the guy who plows the streets in the winter and mows the cemetary in the summer. But they now have to pretty much beg people to run for mayor. One term and most get tired of answering the phone to listed to some old lady complain about a neighbor's dog peeing in her yard or that a neighbor is parking on the street in front of her house.

I may be wrong, but I doubt they'll be doing a nationwide search for a Perkins, OK city manager. I my home town, they put the job description in the local paper and on the bulletin board in the bar.

In the town of Belleview, Florida (near me) they did a search for a new 'city manager'... They had a guy lined up and all set to start. At the last minute (literally) he left a note with a city worker bowing out of the job. Oh....They were all up in arms about how badly this guy treated the city (town)...
