It's Italian for "forward".
Call your local "Sons of Italy" clubhouse or visit an Italian esturant (But don't ask the busboy, he's Mexican!)
________________ A good Italian speaker told me that "forward" carries a strong implication of "out in front."
A senior member of our local always called hers an "uh-VANny." And my late uncle called mine a "LaBonte."
And some people add an "r" to Loewy.....

The cook too!
They want to spice up his name (:-)
___________ Avanti Motors, too!
"PLAZ'-TIK LARK"
Haha... GOOD one, Karl!

the assignment: whoever sees "Avanti" (the movie) next, listen to see how Sophia Loren pronounces it........that'll be good enough for me!
ok - before I get shot down.....wrong movie.....well, right movie but Sophia wasn't in it. now what movie was it that she's always saying "Avanti" in?
Mia Culpa
now what movie was it that she's always saying
--Could it be "Boy on a Dolphin"? I think you're on to something here...
--Yeah, I liked her, too.
Most of the Italian I have heard in the movies was "più profondo!, più profondo!, più profondo!"
Late as usual, but I haven't looked at the NG in ages! Hope you all had great holidays and that everyone has a healthy and happy 2008! The mention of the movie made me chucke, cuz I just got the movie AVANTI from our local library last week. Why? cuz my best gift (of material things, that is), in 2007 was a beautiful RED Avanti! :) I only checked out the movie cuz I liked the name, which my husband got a laugh out of. and yes, it does mean "forward, come forward, move forward" or something like that. movie was o.k., kinda boring, and no Avanti in it. DARN! mel
I thought Juliet Mills looked kinda "forward" on that rock in the sea, but hey, I'm a guy... other than that, the movie didn't deserve hers or Jack Lemmon's talents.

it was no longer the tavern, but the minister's house that was thronged far more than ever the tavern had been wont to be.
There is a very great variety, as to the degree of fear and trouble that persons are exercised with, before they attain any comfortable evidences of pardon and acceptance with God. Some are from the beginning carried on with abundantly more encouragement and hope than others. Some have had ten times less trouble of mind than others, in whom yet the issue seems to be the same. Some have had such a sense of the displeasure of God, and the great danger they were in of damnation, that they could not sleep at nights; and many have said that when they have laid down, the thoughts of sleeping in such a condition have been frightful to them; they have scarcely been free from terror while asleep, and they have awakened with fear, heaviness, and distress still abiding on their spirits. It has been very common, that the deep and fixed concern on persons minds, has had a painful influence on their bodies, and given disturban
one that is out of Christ, now awake and fly from the wrath to come. The wrath of Almighty God is now undoubtedly hanging over a great part of this congregation. Let every one fly out of Sodom: "Haste and escape for your lives, look not behind you, escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed."
