Pay it forward

We've talked about pay it forward gestures on the NG, and there was a great example of a pay it forward on the news tonight. (Actually it was a pay it backwards) A guy was in line for coffee at the drive through at Starbucks when the guy behind him beeped his horn out of impatience. Instead of throwing the guy behind him the bird, he paid for his coffee. Apparently, the act of kindness embarrassed the honker because he did the same for the car behind him, then that car did the same for the car behind them, and it went on like that all day, kinda cool.

The wife of a club member is quite disabled with some degenerative affliction. We don't see her at events too often, and I make a point of speaking with her when we do. Somehow the subject of charity and such came up during a conversation with her. She mentioned that she will occasionally just pay for the order of the car behind her at fast food drive thrus. This is usually a woman with a car full of kids. What a neat thing. I try to remember to do this as well occasionally.

A couple of years ago we were dining with friends at a very expensive restaurant on an evening which happened to be high school graduation night. There was a table of four graduation couples dining near us. Two older men were dining at a booth nearby. After a while, we saw the kids gather at the booth of the older gents for a group picture. Later the waiter told us that the men were strangers to the kids, but seeing them out for an evening with their dates, the men bought dinner for the entire party. I'm sure at least some of those teens will in turn perform acts of kindness as a result of this, and I think that would be a good thing.

My first thought is she screwed up her cash drawer first thing in the AM and it took all day to get it balanced out...
