Pinion seal replacement

I got everything apart and a new seal intalled without any of the factory tools mentioned in the shop manual. But not sure about installing the pinion flange without the factory pusher tool. Can I do it without the tool and does anyone have any tips on how to it without hurting anything.

Before you took the pinion nut off, did you use a felt tip pin or a center punch and mark the nut and the yoke so you can reinstall the yoke and have the pinion bearing preload the same as it was before you took it off? jf

Some seem to be a tighter fit than others. Usually heating up the snug ones in an oven to about 180 degF should help them slide home with little to no effort. Do take a look and make sure you do not have any burrs on the splines anywhere.

I marked the spline and reinstalled the same way as original. That was mentioned in the shop manual, I didn't know why but followed the directions. I didn't mark the nut I just tighted the nut to the torque spec. given in the shop manual. I baked the yoke at 170 degrees hoping to have it install easier but still a very tight fit going on. It was hard to remove and worked the puller the entire distance. So far no leaks so I hope no sealer will be needed and it doesn't have any unusual sounds. Keeping my fingers crossed for success. Working on my back it wasn't the most fun I've ever had so I don't want to go back after the problem again. Thanks for the tips.
