Some of you were taling about places to stay in South Bend. Where was it that you were saying was a bad place to stay? Was it near the airport?

The two hotels by the airport are fairly nice. We use them on a regular basis for business visitors. As a rule, you should be OK if you avoid the two non-franchised places (Drake and South Bend Motels) on South Michigan St. and a place on Lincolnway East called the Wooden Indian. I've heard complaints about some of the other places. I've also heard of some people who like the Drake and South Bend. Not too many words at all about the Wooden Indian.

Take it from someone who lives is South Bend, STAY AWAY FROM THE WOODEN INDIAN!!! Unless you require crack delivery room service and / or a CHEAP hooker!!! And the Drake aint much more than a section 8 vacation destination.AVOID BOTH AT ALL COSTS.........PERIOD!!!!!!

I concur. I have stayed at both the Drake & the So Bend, and have had some good experiences at both, but you are subject to be awakened to mucho "gangsta noise" at all hours of the night & early morning, and papa Patel can't or won't do a thing about it. "Diversity" is a great thing as long as it is soomeone else experiencing it, & not you. You definitely don't want to stay there if bringing the wife to the Intl. However, I would expect that during the 2 Intl. meets, most of the rooms at the Drake Nickel & So Bend will be filled with attendees from the SDC & PAC, so really things may not be so bad. I am "splurging" and staying at the Knights Inn again. Barry

Thans guys for the info. My wife is going to her first international and I surely don't want to mess up by staying in a dump. Henry

You definitely don't want to

I think I'd be more worried about my Studebaker in motel parking lot than the wife in those places!!!

I couldn't get the entire week for the International at the headquarters hotel. This didn't bother me this year because the activities are not taking place there. I got reservations at the Howard Johnson's for $43.XX per night. I haven't stayed there in many years, but it will probably meet my needs as a place to shower and sleep. Oh, that price also includes breakfast.

Geeeeeez, that's cheaper than when I went to a SB meet back in the early

1980's...

JT

Cheaper than the Knights Inn and probably better.
