So how do you sugar coat it.. You can't. In my usual politically incorrect way I will say it like I feel it. For those who don't already know, Tom Elliot passed away after a man sized fight with ALS. The world is a crappier place tonight but heaven is a bit 'richer'.. ..Tom, RIP and tip a few with some of the characters that we all remember..Snurd, Tony, Bruce C. Studebaker George

That's one reason why I found it refreshing to take the chip off my shoulder (and put it in my pocket) at the recent SE Zone meet. Had a superb weekend, and especially enjoyed the evening BS session with Tom where his biggest joy was showing us the 'Baddest' setting on his wheelchair. Looking back at the passed aquaintences... Sigh....
Unfortunately Jeffy, that list just keeps on getting longer... Getting old sometimes sucks real bad... Studebaker George
Not much time to type, but I do have something to say. Tom was very adamant that ALS would not take his life. And, he was right. Turns out he had a defective heart valve since birth, that when it went south would give a instantaneous, painless passing that could happen at any point in his life. He didn't feel a thing, and he DID NOT die from ALS. Just like he said.
Tonight was the viewing. I drove his '51 Champion and parked it out front. The hearse showed up, a '64 T-Cab pickup. Afterwards a party ended up back at the Elliott house, and it's fun. Myself and a couple more in my age group did a beer run in his '51, I know he'd be happy. Tomorrow (well later today) will be the funeral and it'll be another great day. The laughs and happiness is outweighing the sadness by far. It's a good time, just as he wanted it to be.

beats the hell out of the alternative though.
Sorry to hear about Tom, he'll definitely be missed.

Tom's wife Maureen will be keeping the '51 coupe. His first car at age
16 was a '51 Champion, and his last car at age 55 was a '51 Champion. It isn't going anywhere.MB
Isn't it fun to have an afterparty after the funeral service? At first, you feel awkward, because you are not sure how to express yourself. But after you get over yourself and understand 'why' you, and everyone else are there... It becomes great fun. I used to tell a bad Irish joke all the time... "What's the difference between an Irish funeral, and an Irish Wedding?" (There's one less drunk at the funeral) Crude? Sure thing.... But it puts a worthwile perspective on life. I consider myself so fortunate to have known Tom...er...all of you. I tip my glass to Tom.... He taught me a lot about class, humility, reverence, and the importance of friendship. And when it's my time... Tell a bad joke, lift a brewskie (or some other politically correct drink), and laugh your ass off at how stupid I was while I was here. 'Till then... Let's just keep on keepin' on.... Jeff
Well said Jeff! My thoughts exactly!
