Don't buy somebody else's problem(s). Walk away from the deal, get your deposit back and if you still want the car after it's totally fixed, on their dime, then you can buy it.

There's other cars out there, the biggest mistake people make when they buy a car is falling in love with one particular car.

I agree with Mark Olson. However if you truly love this car which you shouldn't then by-all-means get a NO COST to you 100% parts & labor warranty for a minimum of 15,000 miles without a time limit.. If they won't go for the warranty then they have no confidence that it is a good vehicle and move on.

The symptom and the promised cure, as described, do not compute. That does not bode well for continuing down the path with that dealer, or that deal.

Thanks for all your input. We drive our cars until the wheels fall off so I did agree to purchase the GOLD Subaru extended warranty. Now that I think about it, it sounds like I should ask for the recommended option - 15,000 mile warranty at no cost to me. I may walk away from this deal and find a different car. I really don't like the 2006 model without the two tone body. With the car being the same color all over, it doesn't have the sporty look like it used to have. I told them I was willing to work with them on buying a car, however they might have to put me in a different car. They said they would.

Smells a bit like BS. The AWD part is right, but I'm not sure about the bushing.

The noises at 60mph when on the gas, that go away off the gas... are typically trans/diff related. Some 'whining' noise at speed is fairly normal, but knocking definitely isn't good as that may be an indication of some damage to the gears. Is it an auto or manual?

That said, any car can be fixed and made like new... but you shouldn't have to pay for it. If you love it, get them to fix it and give you a warranty.

The car is an automatic. We haven't bought a car for over 10 years and I really don't know if car dealerships have changed that much (trustworthy, etc.) I know everyone wants to make a buck and these days with the Internet, selling cars is somewhat competitive. Nuff said....
