2005 Imprezza GX - rear bumper

Hi there everyone I have a 2005 GX Imprezza that I succeeded in backing into the corner of the bumber on a car that had a steel bumper and dopey put a 2in deep dent in the area around the numberplate. Dent only no physical damage.

My questions are

can this be repaired seeing it is a Hi Tek plastic

and how hard is it to take off the bumber or is it NOT a do-it-yourself project.

Thanks Neville Brisbane Australia

Find an auto repairer and ask if you could put the bumper inside their spray booth during a "bake" cycle, (after spraying has finished!). A couple of hours at

60-70C and the dents will pop straight out, good as new.

Maybe even a pop a dent or hair drier. My Forester's got scraped when I backed into garage. When I contacted insurance company, I believe they said rate would go up if claim above $750, so I saved about $100 by just having bumper buffed out. Looks good as new.

Good morning everybody I tried the suggestion using the hair dryer....after going to the local charity shop and trying all their driers to see which was the hottest.....and yep, it worked great. I used a stick with a lump of rag on the end to distribute the force, heated the bumper and then put the stick up in the inside and presto....bumper as new.

Thanks for saving me heaps of money. Neville

That's a pleasant surprise. Most such dents are in the corner, and you need quite a lot of heat to get those out - more than a dryer will give. Glad it worked for you anyhow!

A change of car would help also. For some reason some models (Camry comes to mind) accumulate a lot of those. And I see a scratched corner of Impreza bumper every once in a while. You can surely blame the driver, but IMHO this also reflects on the car. Not another Impreza for me (no Forester either: same chassis). Just my $.02
