It looks like the software fix for the estimated mileage bug (Subaru Recall WTW-82, NHTSA ID 18V-773) has finally dropped. Got my letter today telling me to book a repair slot this afternoon. Wondering if they can do the navigation map updates at the same time or does that take many hours?

"Your Name" is spreading FUD: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.
Recalls are free-of-charge to the customers. The work must be performed by an authorized dealership (not necessarily the one from whom you purchased the vehicle) who contracts directly with the manufacturer for remimbursement. If the dealership attempts to add fees or make you pay upfront for the repairs, refuse to pay. The manufacturer pays the dealership. Doesn't matter if you purchased the vechicle as new or used from a dealership. You can even do the repairs yourself and charge the manufacturer.
The catch is if the vehicle is over 10 years old. Cars older than 10 years don't qualify; however, often the manufacturers will still do the repairs, especially if they would be liable to lawsuit should the repair involve the safety of all occupants in all cars involved in an accident. Subaru's gas gauge recall covers year models well within the last 10 years.

If customers had to pay, the repairs would rarely get performed leaving the manufacturers liable to lawsuits for safety-related recalls. Just when did you hear about 53 million car owners screaming in 2017 about recalls in 2016 or 31 million screaming in 2018 about recalls in 2017 where they had to pay for the recalls?
