flaring brake line

Dec 06, 2003 1 Replies

I just replaced brake lines on 90 chev lumina. I used metric to regular adapters and regular pre-fit sections. Just for interest I thought I try to flare one of the old pieces that was in good shape. Using a double flare tool I found the line pushed pack through the 3/16 opening of the tool. Is the original GM brake line metric and slightly less tha 3/16 so the flare tool is useless on it?

The secret to geting a good double flare is having the tube gripped well in the tool. if the metric tube is smaller than the size in the flaring tool you'll likely never get a good enough grip on it no matter how tight you make the clamp.
