Vacuum Sensor - looking for

Hi, I'm looking to find a vacuum sensor to measure the vacuum on the inlet manifold of a motorcycle. Can anyone tell me if today's cars are fitted with these items so that I can go to a spares shop or wrecker and locate one or two. TIA, RexT. Melbourne

Yes, many cars are fitted with them, but you need a way to convert the output to something that makes sense in terms of manifold pressure. Some modulate voltage, some modulate frequency. In either case you would need a constant voltage reference (almost all use 5 V), and some type of *computer* to convert the output to something readable on ???

You can pick up vacuum gauges for $20 dollars. I think that's worth the time you'd use in trying to make the above work.

Any supply house can sell you an IW vacuum gauge. You can make out out of a piece of clear plastic tubing formed into a 'U'

The design that I'm working on is a bar graph of LEDs, driven by the sensor, not giving an absolute readout, more an indication of the balance between carburettors. So for my 2 cylinder BMW there will be 2 bargraphs and for a

4 cylinder Honda, a bank of 4. This will be so small, compared to a set of vacuum gauges that it can be fitted within a fairing dashboard and switched on during a trip to check all is still in tune. Perhaps one day I may even try to market the idea... But first I need to build the prototype. Thanks for reply, will start to haunt the wreckers. RexT.
